New Program Outline, Including Funding Scenarios

This document was presented at the Special Interim Committee on Transportation on January 4th, 2010. It contains a description of what a new program would accomplish and most importantly, two funding more...

A Pair of Plans: Funding Scenarios Emerge

The Special Committee on Transportation recommended not one, but two funding concepts for a new transportation plan on Monday. Both concepts are the same in many ways, they both delay any tax or fee increases more...

Hoyt Hillman: I appreciate the Committee's efforts.
- Lowering fuel taxes sends the wrong message to consumers. Cheaper gas encourages consumption or delays replacement to more efficient vehicles or modes of transportation.
- Increasingly fuel efficient choices will tend to flatten revenues long term. Something to think about.
- Economic pressures indicate inflation so sales tax as a viable option, but moving to sales taxes no longer separates transportation funds from general funds and adds the variable of additional political pressure in the legislature making long term planning impossible.

Incentives to move more items and people by more efficient rail must be part of the overall plan. 1/10/2010 1:28 PM
